Washer

Washer trouble, explained for Watauga laundry rooms

Most washers that quit mid-cycle are telling you about water: it can't get in, or it can't get out. A clogged inlet screen, a pump with a sock in it, a lid or door lock that won't confirm it's shut. The motor and transmission get blamed a lot more than they deserve. Before you price a new machine, write down the code or the step where it stops. That one detail usually tells the tech which two or three parts to test first.

A few things that help

Dishwasher filters

Many dishwashers made in the last fifteen years have a manual filter under the lower spray arm. Lots of owners never knew it was there. Twist it out once a month and rinse it. It fixes a surprising number of dirty-dish and standing-water complaints.

Wipe the gasket

A sticky or dirty door gasket doesn't seal. Wipe fridge and dishwasher gaskets with warm soapy water every few months.

Let the air move

Packing the fridge tight against the back wall blocks the vents that move cold air between sections. Leave a little room around them.

Save a little time

  1. Note the timing. Does it fail at start, mid-cycle, or at the end?
  2. Listen closely. Clicks, hums and grinding all point to different parts.
  3. Check for heat or cold. A thermometer tells more than a hand.
  4. Keep the area dry. Towels down and water off if anything leaks.

What happens when we come out

Here's the order of things. You reach us by phone, text or the form, and we pick a weekday time. The tech arrives, tests the likely parts and tells you the cause. Then you get a single repair price. Approve it and the work starts, with the $150 service call dropped from the bill.

You'll pay $150 for the diagnosis if you decide not to repair. If you go ahead, the $150 disappears from the bill, and the repair is under warranty for 90 days.
