Ice maker calls from Lewisville

Ice makers depend on everything upstream: water pressure, the filter, the inlet valve, the fill tube and a freezer cold enough to freeze a tray in a reasonable time. When ice stops, start with the filter date and the shutoff arm. Small or hollow cubes point to water flow. Water on the floor or a block of ice in the bucket points to a frozen fill tube. On French door fridges with the ice maker in the door, repeated freeze-ups have a cause we can track down.

Dust and pets

Pet hair and dust collect on the condenser coil under or behind the fridge and on the fan that cools it. A clogged coil makes the compressor run longer and hotter. Pull the toe grille and vacuum the coil a couple of times a year, more often with shedding pets.

What happens when we come out

Nobody swaps parts to see what happens. The tech checks voltage, resistance, temperatures or water flow, depending on the appliance, until the failed part shows itself. You hear the cause in plain words, then the price. Common parts ride on the truck. Model-specific ones get ordered and installed on a second trip.

Save a little time

  1. Note the timing. Does it fail at start, mid-cycle, or at the end?
  2. Listen closely. Clicks, hums and grinding all point to different parts.
  3. Check for heat or cold. A thermometer tells more than a hand.
  4. Keep the area dry. Towels down and water off if anything leaks.

Trust a thermometer

Before you call about an oven that cooks wrong, check it with an oven thermometer at 350°F. Many ovens let you adjust the offset in the settings.

Know your model number

Snap a photo of the model sticker on every appliance and keep it on your phone. It speeds up every repair call.

Questions from Lewisville

My dryer runs but won't heat. Is it the dryer or the vent?

Both are possible. A clogged vent can blow the thermal fuse, so the tech checks both.

Can I text a photo of the problem?

Yes. Text (469) 720-0002 with a photo of the model sticker, the error code or the part that looks wrong.

Do I need to be home for the repair?

Someone 18 or older should be there to let the tech in and approve the repair price.

Is my fridge food safe while I wait?

A closed fridge holds for about four hours without cooling, and a full freezer about two days. Keep the doors shut.

Do you repair built-in and luxury appliances in Lewisville?

We do. Give us the model when you book so the tech comes prepared.
